Who We Are
Friends support Walworth-Seely Public Library programs in 2010.

Friends was formed in 2003 and has grown from a humble beginning of five members to over sixty-five members. We hope to double that number in the next few years.

One of the most significant events for us in 2007 was when we obtained tax-exempt status by the IRS with a successful application for 501(c) (3) status. This means books, money and other items donated to our organization are tax deductible.

In 2008, Friends held two successful bake and book sales, and gave away free books to children during Walworth's Festival in the Park. One of our goals is promoting literacy in the community.

The Friends organization was active throughout the Walworth community in 2008, providing refreshments for the Walworth Memories program and for a visit to the Walworth Town Hall by Assemblyman Bob Oaks. Members also attended town meetings and gave input into the future space issues facing Walworth. There were also two book and bake sales and Friends participated in the Festival in the Park in August.

In November 2009, Friends presented a check for $1,000 to Library Director Mary Zingerlla for help with upcoming library programs facing fuding cuts. This past summer, we donated an eight foot banner that is a welcoming sign over the library's entrance doors. It has three logos printed on it: OWWL representing the Pioneer Library System, WSPL, and the Friends. In 2009, we also helped provide refreshments for the library’s end of summer reading program social, and for the Walworth Memories program. There were also two book and bake sales and the parade float and booth at Walworth’s Festival in the Park. The Friends gave a free book to children who came by the booth. Computer tutoring resources are now available by the Friends, please ask at the library’s front desk for more information.
